It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp

WTF? Did that fucking song just win Best Original Song?

I no longer give a rat's ass who wins an Oscar ever again.

I honestly don't even think that (good) rap is without merit, but that wasn't even good rap (which is few and far between). Repetitive rhythms, simplistic rhyming structure, stupid lyrics.

Remember, "Best" doesn't mean it's any good. It just means that's the best they could find that year.

Your description of this song appears to be a fine definition of rap.

Well, I feel like I need to defend it just a little bit. The Oscar performance of the song was kind of bad. It didn't do a thing to highlight how important the song was to the movie (it basically MADE the movie, giving the pimp his big break), and the choreography was just plain goofy. The scene in "Hustle and Flow" when DJay and the gang record the song in their crappy house with their crappy equipment, and it all comes together and everyone is elated that they might catch a break...it's pretty good. Is all I'm saying.
